Unlocking files removes the lock that was set when the file was checked-out. This can be useful if you have checked out a document for editing and then later decide that changing the file is unnecessary. You can unlock the document without checking the document in and uploading the changed file.
To unlock a file from the My recent items view:
To unlock a file from the document list:
disappears at the end of the document's name in the document list.To unlock a file from the parent document's property page:
next to the file name that you want to unlock. The File actions menu appears.
